I am Chair of Brixham Battery Heritage Group. We have saved the 14 acres of Brixham's Battery Gardens from potential development. The group was formed in 1999 after local councillors threatend to demolish the Victorian and WW2 buildings in the park. English Heritage were invited to inspect and map the area resulting in the park being Scheduled as a Historic Monument. We restored the derelict Artillery Training Hut on site which is now our museum. The museum is open throughout the year free of charge every Sunday, Monday and Friday afternoon 2 - 4pm. The group made up entirely of volunteers who man the Heritage Centre Museum, give free guided walks of the Battery, restore, conserve and interpret the battery buildings and maintain the park as a wildlife haven.
We depend on donations and have recieved lottery grants in the past.
