The draft orders for the A628 / A57 proposal have now been withdrawn by the Highways Agency.
The draft orders for the associated Glossop Spur campaign have also been withdrawn.
The Local Authority have however as I wrote before managed to salvage the scheme to the extent that they have obtained the first stages of funding support for a truncated Mottram Bypass scheme with Glossop Spur (with - at least at first - no Glossop Spur component).
So whilst all of us up here in Derbyshire/Lancs/Cheshire triangle, CPRE South Yorks, Save Swallows Wood, No Mottram Bypass blog, me myself, Uncle Tom Cobley and all are quietly celebrating the demise of this outrageous proposed desecration of our sacred heritage, it is very much a case of continued vigilance and future battles some time in the future ahead.
Anyone who visited my web site http://www.stopmottrambypass.org, would have known that I am a bit sadly a bit of a Harry Potter fan, so it is in that spirit that I say that the situation is rather similar to those books where "He Who Must Not Be Named" is shrunk to a wasted nothing, but is not alas completely finished off. Will that day ever come?
Meanwhile I wonder if this Campaign should be retitled Stop the A57 Mottram Bypass for the time being, as there would be probably be no A628 in any proposal of the near future. You would have to see the maps to get my gist.
Also meanwhile at the above url, stopmottrambypass.org I have started a "blog", that tries to keep people updated on the Green Issues that concern me most, the particular one being the need for consensus of a plausible energy strategy amongst green groups that battles climate change but does not wantonly destroy the countryside. Way to go, but very important.
PLEASE SUBSCRIBE TO THE BLOG ON MY Website if these issues interest you.
very best and thanks for continuing support
