Why should you join?
The Land Restoration Trust (LRT) will be giving away special packets of native wildflower seeds at events, such as community open days, exhibitions and shows around the country.
Following the Trust's successful ‘Growth for a Better Future' tree planting campaign, which has seen over 6000 trees planted around the country, Growth for a Brighter Future is an exciting new drive to promote bio-diversity. The mixed seed packets include Yarrow, Knapweed, Cornflower, Poppy and Ox Eye Daisy, all colourful native species. Over the next year the LRT has set itself a target of giving away 10 000 seed packets (over 2 million seeds). The wild flowers will attract butterflies and other insects, which in term will attract birds and small mammals.
Euan Hall, chief executive of the LRT, comments, “By giving the seeds away, we hope to encourage people to take an interest in the bio-diversity of their own environment. Obviously the more people that are actively involved in the care of the environment, even in a small way, the better.”
