About 'Save Coral Reefs and Rainforests '

600 Million people worldwide directly rely on coral reefs for survival. 30% of coral reefs are already destroyed, & another 30% are under threat from destructive fishing, pollution, disease & climate change. Act now to protect them or risk obliterating reefs & rainforests completely within our lifetime. Education is the key. See how here.

How you can help

ITS FREE! and Coral Cay Conservation is a true eco-tourism organisation! For over 22 years we have been committed to saving the environment by empowering the local custodians of a number of coral reefs and rainforest worldwide. By using environmental education and training as our building blocks we ensure sustainable utilisation and longevity of these fragile ecosystems. Coral reefs are among one of the most productive, diverse and complex ecosystems in the world.

They are also under global threat. It is estimated that around 70 per cent of all the world's coral reefs are degraded, 30% of which are damaged beyond repair. A further 30 per cent are under severe threat in some way or another due to anthropogenic factors, so action is needed. If we did lose coral reefs the 600 million people who directly rely on them would lose their livelihoods not mention the other hundreds of thousands worldwide that would be affected by dwindling fish stocks. This is because from just 1 square kilometre of coral reef approximately 30 metric tonnes or 30,000 kilograms of fish can be harvested.

Rainforests house more species of plants and animals than the rest of the world put together and we are losing them at a staggering rate. 42 million acres of tropical forest are lost each year, which equals 100 acres a minute so by the time you finish reading this another 100 acres would have been lost! So in 25 minutes, 750 tree species, 60 amphibian species and 100 reptiles could be lost.

As a non-profit charitable organisation we rely on donations, funds from our dedicated volunteers and specialist staff in order to complete our conservation missions in the field.

Our four field sites are:

Tobago, Marine Project
Philippines, Southern Leyte Coral Reef Conservation Project
Philippines, Negros Rainforest Conservation Project
Papua New Guinea, Waria Valley Rainforest Conservation Project

Coral Cay Conservation works at the invitation of governments & in partnership with NGOs in host countries. The combined efforts of CCC volunteers & field staff has helped create marine reserves & wildlife sanctuaries & secured the future for people whose survival depends on healthy, thriving & protected reefs & rainforests for their livelihoods.
