Small shops in Lewes are under pressure because of extortionate parking tariffs. There are no cycle paths to Lewes and only intermittent bus services from outlying villages.
No one asked for the parking regime, which is the most costly in the UK and half the money goes to NCP and American owned company instead of being reinvested back into our town improving environmental services, i.e public transport, flood prevention and cycle paths
people should join to support diversity and small shops and take trade away from cooperate supermarkets (the only ones exempt from the draconian parking regime). Its not the charges (although the are too high) its where they are spent: THATS THE PROBLEM!
Direct action,- civil disobedience, following the example of Mahatma Ghandi -could give the town back to the people and wrest it from the grip of the N.C.P. and supermarkets and of course put pressure on the real culprits East Sussex County Council for
selling the soul of Lewes down the river.......
